Hello and welcome to the Fat Quarter Shop Blog Remix! Every other Thursday through mid-November, the Fat Quarter Shop is revisiting a previously posted tutorial and adding new tips, tricks and FABRIC! Today is my day to sew along for the remix and I am going to show you what I did with the Single Scoop Zipper Pouch.
I made one of these pouches when the tutorial first came out a few years ago and it was actually one of the first zipper pouches I had ever made. That pouch is currently holding my planner pens. It is well loved and full of pen marks!
For the remix, I decided to make a zipper pouch to hold my applique supplies while I attempt to keep up with Lori Holt and the Autumn Love Sew Along. I love having matching things, so I used Lori Holt’s Autumn Love fabric for my new Single Scoop Zipper Bag.
You can find the tutorial for the Single Scoop HERE. There is a fun video tutorial on the Jolly Jabber blog which includes directions and helpful hints. The template for the Single Scoop Zipper Pouch can be found HERE.
I love all things patchwork, so I wanted to make a patchwork version of this pouch. You will need 12 – 2 1/2″ squares to do this. I made the back of this pouch with the brown floral fabric from this collection (which is my favorite print), but you can obviously make both sides with patchwork panels using 24 – 2 1/2″ squares.
I decided to leave the strap off and include a little selvage tag instead.
I used a piece of fabric about 6 inches long and 3 inches wide. I made a piece of double fold bias tape by folding the fabric in half WST, opening it up and bringing the ends in towards the fold. I then folded it in half again and added a piece of selvage on top. I used a narrow piece of fusible light weight Heat and Bond to adhere and hold the selvage in place. This also helps so that it doesn’t fray as it is used. I sewed along the edges of this little selvage tag and then folded it in half. I wanted the Autumn Love words to be showing from the front of the zipper pouch, so I placed it on the right hand side and basted it in place.
I am enjoying my Single Scoop zipper pouch as I sew along with the Autumn Love Sew Along. Having matching things makes me so happy! I am already falling behind in this sew along, but I’m having fun and that is all that matters! Happy pumpkin spice season, everyone!!! Go make yourself or someone else a fun little zippy pouch!!
