Marsupials and Monotremes Blog Tour

Hello and welcome to my stop on the Marsupials and Monotremes Blog Tour! I am so excited to be a member of another blog tour for Amanda Brandl and her beautiful designs. This time, Amanda has designed a fabric line that centers around the wombat, echidna and platypus which are some of Australia’s most famous and well loved animals. These are not animals we see here in America, and to play with fabric that focuses on these particular creatures was so much fun!

The first collection designed by Amanda was called Bush Gum Blossoms and included some soft, pastel prints that I felt were perfect for a little girls tea party! The prints from Marsupials and Monotremes are very different. They are bold, bright and vibrant! I felt as though the colors had this “kids on the go” vibe to them. I looked at these prints and immediately thought “rough and tough everyday play.” So, I decided to create something for my girls that they could take with them on the go and cram full with their little treasures.

I decided to make a pattern by Clover & Violet called The Alice Backpack. I made the medium size from the pattern which includes a large drawstring area, a zippered section and also two slip pockets behind the zippered section. I used animal prints on both backpacks and attempted to coordinate with matching zippers and drawstring cording.

I also made pencil cases that fit perfectly inside their backpacks. I used a pattern by Sew Sweetness called the I-Spy Pouch. I had enough fabric left over to make one for myself too (because if you are making two, you might as well make three, right?!). I think this dark reddish print might be my favorite from the collection. I love the hints of teal in it! I am going to use mine for my planner pens and stickers. I thought my daughers would use their cases for crayons or markers, but they quickly filled them up with Paw Patrol figures and L.O.L. dolls!

Just like the last time I had the opportunity to work with fabric from Kennard and Kennard, it has a very nice feel and weight to it that I really enjoy working with. A big thank you to Kennard and Kennard and to Amanda Brandl for inviting me on your blog tour. I am honored to work with your company and your fabric!

I took my girls outside in 25 degrees (F) to take these pictures! We had to be super quick, but they had fun 🙂 They were great backpack models!
