Quilter’s Cottage Sew Along Weeks 2 and 3

Hello Quilty friends! Welcome to weeks 2 and 3 of the Quilter’s Cottage Sew Along!

I am still absolutely in love with Lori Holt’s Prim collection (and I’m starting to feel like I might need more yardage of some of these prints). After each block I make, I am also so happy with the background color I chose! It is Riley Blake Confetti Cottons in Pewter and I love it!!

In week 2, we made the Quilter’s Cottage block. I knew I was going to make my house with the pink prints from the Prim collection to make the pinkest of pink little sewing cottages 🙂 I originally chose a pink print for the front steps, but I felt as though they looked lost and blended in with the house. I changed those steps out to a darker teal print and I think they pop a little better now.

You can see the pink steps on the left below and the new teal steps on the right. What do you think?

I love the heart on the door and the way the windows “light up” as though there is lots and lots of sewing going on inside! I opted to leave off the vintage trim coming out of the chimney for now. I might add it in later…I’ll see how I feel about it when I finish other blocks.

In week 3 of the sew along we made the six Happy Flower blocks. I chose to make pink, yellow and blue flowers for the front of my cottage and I really love how they came out. They took a lot longer than I thought they would! So many corners in those blocks, but they came out really cute and I can’t wait to see how they look in front of my pink cottage.

Next week we are working on the Cobblestone Block and the Picket Fence Block in week 5. How are your Quilter’s Cottage quilt tops coming along? Make sure to use the #quilterscottagesewalong to post your progress pictures on Instagram so we can all see the beautiful cottages! And make sure to tag @fatquartershop for your chance to win amazing Lori Holt prizes! If you are just joining in, click HERE for sew along info and HERE for info from Week 1.
